He spreads her legs over the sofa since he argued she was used to that, so he could use several leather straps, all the while shaming her further. However, there is a happy ending (of sorts) as they both embrace afterward, the intense bond they still have together like no other couple. It's also a rather good film with some excellent, witty banter between John and Bernadette... this is a side that you will not have seen from her.
